As a teenager, I had a soft spot for the Pre-Raphaelites. Moody paintings depicting a non existent Medieval world filled with maiden in distress or a long gone Greek goddess draped in layers of silk and veil. This was my kind of romance, long before ‘emo‘ existed to satisfy moody teens. My taste for art has evolved but nostalgia still helps me go weak at the knees when a hint of Preraphaelitism is in the air.
Lately I’ve taken a liking for Florence and the Machine. I was a little hesitant when the big fuzz broke out about a year and a half ago and attributed some of her success at least to the notorious dazzled knickers she wore. But I was wrong. During the last year, I’ve found myself time and again liking a song that turned out hers. ‘Shake it out’ is my latest darling, ‘cause it’s always darkest before the dawn‘. Imagine my delight when watching the video and discovering quite a striking resemblance to Dante Gabriel Rossetti‘s Beata Beatrix. What must come round, will come round!

Beata Beatrix by Dante Gabriel Rosetti
